About our Chapter and How to become a Member!

Delta Alpha – UMKC’s Mortar Board chapter

  • We hold meetings every 2 weeks (bi-weekly) for 1 hour maximum duration
  • Currently, there are 20 active members this academic year
  • Members come from a wide range of disciplines (6-year Med, School of Education, Engineering, Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, Pre-Health, Social Work, Communications, Nursing, Pharmacy, Language studies, Business)
  • We organize at least 1 service project per semester
  • We fundraise at Commencement at the end of each semester by selling graduation roses
  • We organize at least 1 book drive per academic year
  • Mortar Board Week is held every February-
    • This year: February 14th-18th, 2011

Your eligibility for membership:
  • 3.2 GPA
  • Involvement in scholarship, leadership, and service
  • Members must commit to participate in Mortar Board activities for at least one academic year.
  • Each member must qualify as a junior or senior credit-status student (This means you must have enough college credits to be considered at junior or senior level.)
    • Each year, many prospective members are confused about this requirement. (We will attempt to explain this in the following 2 bullets.)
      • Prospective members must have completed enough college credits to be considered at junior or senior status. For example, each year there are a few applicants who have only been at UMKC/college for 2 years. However, they completed many college courses at the high school level or at community colleges and thus, qualify as junior or senior status because they added up all these credits. Thus, they ARE ELIGIBLE to apply.
      • You can check your status at UMKC by logging into your UMKC email and looking yourself up on the email contacts or on Pathway.
